For over 3,000 years, Ayurvedic tradition has turned to Brahmi — Bacopa monnieri — as a "medhya rasayana," a class of herbs specifically revered for rejuvenating the mind. Referenced in the classical Charaka Samhita and Sushruta Samhita, Brahmi's very name traces back to "Brahma," reflecting its reputation as an herb of mental clarity and consciousness.

Modern research has taken a real interest in Brahmi. A meta-analysis of nine randomized controlled trials found it supports cognitive performance, particularly speed of attention, and individual clinical trials have explored its role in memory recall, learning, and stress reactivity. Researchers point to bacosides A and B — naturally occurring compounds believed to support synaptic communication and healthy acetylcholine activity in the brain.*

HOW TO USE

Mix 1 tsp (2–3g) of Brahmi leaf powder into warm water, milk, or a small amount of ghee. Traditionally taken once daily, preferably with food to ease digestion.

Traditional tip: in Kerala's Ayurvedic tradition, Brahmi is often blended into ghee (Brahmi Ghrita) rather than taken as a plain tea — its bitterness softens beautifully when paired with a little warmth and fat.
