Product details

Description

Long before chai was a coffee-shop menu item, it was medicine. In India, spiced milk and water simmered with cinnamon, cardamom, clove, and black pepper — known as masala — has been brewed for generations, and Ayurveda has prized these "warming" spices for over 2,000 years to kindle agni, the digestive fire. In Kashmir, a pinch of salt in the pot is tradition. Our house chai honors both.

What's in the cup. This is a spice-forward, caffeine-free chai built on cassia cinnamon, with clove, cardamom, a touch of black sea salt, and black peppercorn. Cinnamon brings cinnamaldehyde, the compound behind its sweet heat. Clove is one of the richest plant sources of eugenol, an aromatic antioxidant. Cardamom adds bright, cooling essential oils, and black pepper's piperine is known to help the body absorb other plant compounds. The salt rounds out the spice and wakes up the flavor.

WHY CHAI?

  • Naturally caffeine-free — enjoy it morning, night, or anytime in between*
  • May support healthy digestion after meals*
  • Cinnamon may support healthy blood sugar levels already within normal range, according to a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials*

  • May help ease occasional bloating and gas*
  • Black pepper's piperine may support absorption of other botanical compounds*

HOW TO BREW

Add 1 tsp (about 2g) of chai to 8 oz of water in a small pot. Bring to a boil, then cover and simmer 10–15 minutes — whole spices need time to open up, and covering keeps their aromatic oils in your cup. Add milk for the last few minutes if you like it creamy, strain, and sweeten to taste. Want a traditional black-tea chai? Add 1 tsp of black tea during the last 3–5 minutes.

Tip: In Indian homes, chai is simmered — never just steeped. Lightly crush the cardamom and peppercorns with the back of a spoon before brewing for a deeper, richer cup.

INGREDIENTS: Cassia cinnamon (Cinnamomum cassia), cloves (Syzygium aromaticum), cardamom (Elettaria cardamomum), black sea salt, black peppercorn (Piper nigrum).

SUGGESTED USE: 1 tsp simmered in 8 oz water, 1–2 cups daily.

⚠️ Good to know: Cassia cinnamon naturally contains coumarin, which may affect the liver in large amounts — enjoy in moderation and avoid daily high intake if you have liver concerns. Cinnamon may add to the effects of blood sugar medications, and cinnamon and clove may interact with blood thinners. Contains salt — note if you're watching sodium. Consult your healthcare provider before use if pregnant, nursing, taking medications, or managing a health condition.
