Description

Commiphora myrrha | Traditional Resin · Ancient Incense Route · TCM & Ayurvedic Heritage

Carried by camel caravans along the ancient Incense Route and gifted by the Magi, myrrh has been prized for over 3,000 years, from Egyptian temples to Chinese and Ayurvedic apothecaries. The name comes from the Arabic "murr," bitter. It bleeds from cuts in the bark of a small, thorny tree native to Somalia, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Yemen, and southern Arabia.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, myrrh is known as Mo Yao and used to keep blood moving and ease discomfort.* Ayurveda knows it as Bola, a warming, bitter resin for kapha and vata.* Preclinical research suggests myrrh's aromatic compounds, called furanosesquiterpenes, may interact with the body's own comfort pathways and support a healthy inflammatory response.* Human research is still emerging, and we'd rather tell you that plainly.

Why Myrrh?

  • May support occasional muscle and joint comfort*
  • May support a healthy inflammatory response*
  • May support healthy circulation, as traditionally used in TCM*
  • May support digestive comfort, as traditionally used in Ayurveda*
  • Over 3,000 years of documented use across Egyptian, Chinese, and Ayurvedic traditions
  • Whole resin tears — grind fresh for each use

How to Use

  1. Adults: grind one pea-sized piece (approx. 0.5 g) with a dedicated mortar and pestle or spice grinder — myrrh is sticky, so keep separate tools for it
  2. Stir into 4–6 oz warm water or a spoonful of honey
  3. Take up to twice daily

Traditional tip: Myrrh isn't steeped like tea. Only part of the resin dissolves in water, which is why traditions powder it, mix it into honey, or infuse it in oil instead.

Important Safety Information

  • Pregnancy and nursing: Do not use. Myrrh is traditionally considered to stimulate menstrual flow.
  • Blood thinners: Avoid if you take warfarin or other blood thinners.
  • Blood sugar medication: Myrrh may lower blood sugar — talk with your healthcare provider first.
  • Age: For adults and teens over 12 only.
