Pau d'Acro
Product details
Description
PAU D'ACRO | Tabebuia impetiginosa (syn. T. avellanedae)
Long before it was ever brewed into tea, the Pau d'Arco tree was known to the Guarani and Tupi peoples of South America as "tajy," a name meaning strength and vigor. Its wood was so dense that insects and fungi couldn't touch it, so it was carved into hunting bows. Its inner bark, simmered into a strong decoction, became a generations-deep tonic tradition across the Amazon and the Andes.
WHAT THE RESEARCH SAYS
Modern research has traced that tradition to two compounds concentrated in the bark: lapachol and beta-lapachone. Preclinical research suggests these naphthoquinones have antibacterial and antifungal activity in the lab and may support the body's normal inflammatory response.* Human research is still early. One small open-label trial found encapsulated bark well tolerated over eight weeks, which is a safety signal, not proof of effect. For the cup in your hand, the deepest evidence is centuries of South American traditional use.*
