Psyllium Husk Powder
Product details
Description
Plantago ovata | Fiber · Regularity · Digestive Comfort · Fine Husk Powder
In India it's called isabgol, from the Persian "asp-ghol," horse's ear, after the little boat-shaped seed. Persian and Unani physicians used it as a gentle "mulayyin" to ease the bowels, and that tradition traveled the trade routes into India, which still grows most of the world's supply in Gujarat and Rajasthan.
Psyllium is roughly 80% dietary fiber, most of it soluble. Stirred into water, it forms a smooth gel that holds water, softening stool when things are slow and adding form when things are loose.* A 2022 meta-analysis of 16 randomized controlled trials found fiber supplements, psyllium among them, may support regularity, with the best results above 10 g a day for at least 4 weeks.* A 2018 meta-analysis of 28 randomized controlled trials found psyllium may support healthy cholesterol levels already within normal range.*
Why Psyllium?
- May support healthy, comfortable regularity*
- May support overall digestive comfort*
- May support healthy cholesterol levels already within normal range*
- May support a comfortable feeling of fullness after meals*
- Gel reaches the colon largely intact, so it's gentler on gas than many fermentable fibers*
- Classified as sweet and cooling in Ayurvedic medicine, a traditional pitta-soother
- Rooted in Persian, Unani, and Ayurvedic tradition
How to Use
- Stir 1 level tsp into at least 8 oz of water or juice
- Drink right away, before it thickens, then follow with another full glass of water
